Fed: Holiday road toll moves to 40

The national holiday road toll has risen to 40 following another death in Queensland.

A man in his 30s died when his car collided with another vehicle on the Capricorn Highway
at Bahaunia Creek .. west of Rockhampton in Central Queensland .. about 3.45 yesterday
afternoon (AEST).

The death took Queensland's holiday road toll to eight.

But Victoria still tops the toll with 11 deaths .. Western Australia has nine and New
South Wales also has eight.

There have been three deaths in the Northern Territory and one in South Australia.

No road fatalities have been recorded in Tasmania or the Australian Capital Territory.
