FED: Kiwis lead tourist rush to Australia
A cut-throat trans-Tasman aviation market has sparked a jump of almost 30 per cent
in the number of visitors from New Zealand.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics says 59,000 people visited Australia from New Zealand
in February.
Overall there was an increase of 6.4 per cent in the number of international visitors.
Australian Tourism Export Council managing director PETER SHELLEY says February was
a record month, with 454,800 people arriving from overseas.
He says Australian tourism may finally be returning to the growth levels of the years
leading up to the 2000 Olympic Games.
