Job cuts due at AMRI factory; Albany Molecular cites losses in shedding 41 positions at Organichem plant.(Business)

ALBANY - The Organichem Corp. manufacturing plant that drug-discovery company Albany Molecular Research Inc. bought in 2003 has been struggling for the past year, losing money in two of the past four quarters.

So on Thursday, with third-quarter income companywide down sharply from a year ago, Albany Molecular announced major changes.

By the end of the year, 41 positions at the plant will be cut and excess equipment will be sold. The operation will be redesigned to be more "nimble and agile," company officials said during a conference call with analysts.
